This years Food Show was the best one yet

I’m sure by now you know I am a huge fan of The Food Show and my chatter about it leading up to the event doesn’t stop.

And what do you know, the day finally came!

I dragged my best friend and fellow food lover Peggy along for the ride. I’m really lucky that I have one friend in Christchurch who loves food and cooking as much as I do. We were at the show from about 11:00am till 3:30pm – seems like a long time for some, but when you’re sitting in the cooking theatre, watching your favourite chefs cook, and then wandering around sampling all there is to offer, the day just flies by!

Here are a few snaps from our day out.

First stop – the Nespresso stand. Needed fuel for the day.

Then I popped in to see my good friends Magimix – check out the Cook Expert, I had no idea it came in black – very flash!

The Food Show Cooking theatre. Tip – get there ten minutes early so you can get the best seats. Aka the front row.

First up – Michael Van de Elzen – using a cut of Skirt from Greenmeadows Beef he created this Wicked Yoghurt-Marinated Angus Skirt. You can find the recipe here.

The end result – look how perfectly cooked that is!

FAN GIRL MOMENT 2017.

Next up – Ray McVinnie. Ray is always an entertaining and engaging chef to watch – especially from the front row! His dishes included Zuppa di Prezzemolo and Pan-fried Lamb Backstraps with Sheep’s Milk Feta, Zuchinni, Beetroot and Israeli Couscous.

What about dessert? Well.. wait for it…..

I did something my bestfriend Peggy may never ever let me live down.

Ray asked for someone from the audiences help with prepping his dessert and I started pointing to her. She wasn’t looking and boy she got the shock of her life when he asked her up on stage! I am only slightly sorry as I know deep down, she had a blast.

Ray’s dessert was a delicious Mascarpone, Rose and Rhubard Trifle.

Michael Van de Elzen’s Angus Skirt got me inspired, so I popped in to see my mates at Greenmeadows Beef, said hi and picked up the Skirt I needed to make Mike’s dish.

This is my third year attending The Food Show and I can honestly say it never gets old or boring. I love how brands engage so well with customers, they put so much effort into their stands and they’re so passionate about what they’re selling. And the best part? There is ALWAYS something new and exciting to eat and drink.

Whether you’re just learning to cook, a fully fledged foodie, or just someone who loves to try new things, I fully recommend heading along to the show. Auckland and Wellington, its your turn next!

Have fun.
