Chilli Broth with Magimix Cook Expert and The Food Nest NZ

So as you’re all aware, this amazing piece of equipment has been living with us for the last month.

We’ve tried to use the Magimix Cook Expert as much as we can in our everyday cooking. From broths, to sauces, to boiling rice, steaming vegetables and chopping up all sorts of things, it’s safe to say the Magimix Cook Expert and I (ok and my partner too) have had some pretty good adventures so far.

Magimix Cook Expert France New Zealand Launch

Here is one of my favourite adventures with it so far.T

This is definitely one of those recipes you can throw all sorts of things and quantities into the Magimix Cook Expert and you’ll get a flavoursome result (well at least I think so) so I give you full permission to experiment!

Note: If you’re not big on hot food, you may want to use less chilies than we did. Because this is super super hot. FYI – we get these chilies from Kosco in Christchurch for about $1.99, for a one kilogram bag. They are ridicoulsy hot. Promise.

Chilli Broth with Magimix Cook Expert and The Food Nest NZ

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 large brown onion
  • 2 tsp of garlic (or two whole cloves)
  • 1 tsp of ginger (fresh is best)
  • 2 dried chilies (if you don’t have dried, you can use fresh)
  • 1/2 tsp of ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp of ground cumin
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 dried basil leaves
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 1/3 cup of dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbl spoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp of lemon juice

You’ll also need:

  • Salt and pepper to season your rump steak
  • Half a packet of rice noodles
  • Spring onions
  • 200 grams of rump steak

Place your roughly chopped onion, whole garlic and ginger into the Magimix Cook Expert with dash of oil.

Set the Magimix to the expert setting. Time 5 minutes | Heat 110 deg | Speed 4. At the end of the cycle, remove the lid, add water, and all other ingredients.

Set the Magimix to the expert setting. Time 2 hours | Heat 110 deg | Speed 2. Walk away.

When the broth is close to ready, season both sides of the rump steak with salt and pepper and place into a hot pan, cooking the steak to your preference. We opted for medium rare.

Lastly, boil the rice noodles and dice up the spring onion.

To serve:
Place your rice noodles in a bowl and place a ladle full of broth over the top. Place your cooked beef over the top and garnish with spring onion.
